PrepFE vs PPI vs School of PE vs Engineer Exam Lab: which fits you?
PrepFE sells a question bank for $79.99 (one month), $99.99 (three months), or $119.99 (six months), with no auto-renewal. PPI and School of PE add courses, with published FE Civil prices ranging from $139 to $1,999. Engineer Exam Lab offers daily practice at $59 a month for the FE, or $89 a month with PE practice included. A fixed problem bank suits solo review, a course suits structured lectures, and the community suits a steady daily routine.
How the four options compare
These four products do not sell the same thing, so the price gap is mostly a format gap: PrepFE is a prepaid question bank, PPI and School of PE each sell a question resource plus on-demand and live classes, and Engineer Exam Lab is a membership that runs until you cancel it.
| Provider | Entry price | Highest listed price | Format | What the page includes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PrepFE | $79.99 for 1 month | $119.99 for 6 months | Question bank and iOS apps | Timed exams, topic exams, more than 500 problems, flash cards, a strengths and weaknesses breakdown, a pass guarantee (free repeat subscription) |
| PPI, FE Civil | $149 a month (Learning Hub) | $1,795 (Live Online, regular) | Self-study, on-demand, live, tutoring | Learning Hub, OnDemand, Live Online, tutoring with Live Online |
| School of PE, FE Civil | $139 for 1 month (question bank) | $1,999 for 12 months (OnDemand) | Question bank, on-demand, live | OnDemand, question bank, Live Online plus OnDemand |
| Engineer Exam Lab | $59 a month (Standard) | $890 a year (Premium) | Daily practice community | Daily worked problem, Saturday mock, tutor answers, 7-day trial |
Figures for PPI and School of PE were read on October 3, 2026. PPI marks the OnDemand line and the Live Online price that starts at $1,295 as sale prices, while the regular Live Online price on that page is $1,795. A wider 2026 price survey is on FE exam prep options compared. NCEES sells its own practice exams inside MyNCEES, and that price appears only after you log in, so it does not appear in the table.
What you get with PrepFE
PrepFE lists three one-time totals: $79.99 for one month, $99.99 for three months, and $119.99 for six months, and none of these plans auto-renew. Spread over the term you buy, the three-month total works out to about $33.33 a month and the six-month total to about $20.00 a month, while the one-month plan costs the full $79.99 for a single month of access.
The plans list interactive practice exams, timed practice exams, topic exams, more than 500 FE practice problems with explanations that show the steps, flash cards, a strengths and weaknesses breakdown, and iOS apps. PrepFE also advertises a pass guarantee in the form of a free repeat subscription, which is best read as another term of access if you meet their terms, rather than as evidence about your chance of passing.
Buy PrepFE when you can already start a problem and want a timer, topic drills, and a fixed end date for the bill. The pricing page used here does not list a live class, so if a subject still needs teaching, compare a course before you prepay the six-month bank. You can also work free FE practice problems with full solutions to see whether full writeups are enough before you pay.
What PPI charges for FE Civil
PPI’s FE Civil page, as read on October 3, 2026, lists four ways to buy prep:
- Learning Hub self-study: $149 a month, $399 for 3 months, $649 for 6 months, or $849 for a year.
- OnDemand course, marked as sale prices: $395 a month, $995 for 4 months, $1,195 for 6 months, or $1,395 for a year.
- Live Online: from $1,295 on sale, regularly $1,795.
- Tutoring plus Live Online: from $1,595.
Treat “sale” as part of the price you saw that day: Learning Hub is not described as a sale price in these figures, while Live Online and tutoring are “from” prices, so the final package can differ from the starting number. Four months of OnDemand is listed at $995 on sale, against a monthly OnDemand price of $395, so the prepaid block only helps if you will use the whole window.
The page names the products and prices but does not, in the figures used here, give lesson counts or promise that each tier includes the same videos. Compare the name of the tier to the kind of help you want: a self-study hub, an on-demand course, a live class, or a live class with a tutor.
PPI is the company to open if you want all four rungs from one seller, though it is the expensive end of this comparison once you leave Learning Hub. A question bank is the smaller purchase if you do not need the class.
What School of PE charges for FE Civil
School of PE’s FE Civil list has three products. These are the published prices as read on October 3, 2026, and they are not labeled as sale prices in the source used here.
- OnDemand: $349 a month, $1,099 for 4 months, $1,499 for 6 months, or $1,999 for 12 months.
- Question bank: $139 for 1 month, or $399 for 4 months.
- Live Online plus OnDemand: from $1,199.
Set the question bank next to PrepFE if practice is all you want: one month is $139 at School of PE versus $79.99 at PrepFE, and four months at School of PE is $399 against PrepFE’s three-month total of $99.99 and six-month total of $119.99. On those stickers, PrepFE is the smaller practice bill, and School of PE’s $139 month is lower only when compared with PPI Learning Hub at $149 a month.
OnDemand at $349 a month sits near PPI’s sale OnDemand price of $395 a month, and the $1,999 price for 12 months of OnDemand is the highest total printed in this comparison. Live Online plus OnDemand starts at $1,199, near PPI’s sale live price of $1,295 and below PPI’s regular live price of $1,795, though a lower starting price is not proof of a smaller course. The two sites do not publish matching inclusion lists in the facts used here.
School of PE fits when you want a bank and a class from the same FE Civil catalog, and when $349 for an on-demand month or a live bundle from $1,199 matches the support you will use.
What Engineer Exam Lab includes
Engineer Exam Lab has two memberships. Standard is $59 a month or $590 a year and is the FE plan, while Premium is $89 a month or $890 a year, includes everything in Standard, and is the PE plan. New members get a 7-day free trial, there are no refunds, and you can cancel any time in Skool settings, with access running through the end of the period you already paid.
The schedule is the product. A new FE problem posts every day at 6:00 AM Central, and the full worked solution posts at 6:00 PM Central, while a weekly timed mock posts on Saturday at 9:00 AM Central. The first daily problem posts on October 4, 2026. Members post questions in the Ask category, and the tutor answers with steps. For how that daily pattern compares with other practice habits, see where to find daily FE practice problems.
The problems are original: software generates them from the formulas in the NCEES reference handbooks, code computes and checks every answer before a problem is posted, and a second AI model checks the wording. Each solution names the handbook section and page, the equation, the substitution with units, and why each wrong option is wrong. That writeup is meant to be used beside the FE Reference Handbook, which is the lookup you will have on the exam.
This membership is not a live semester and not a prepaid bank of a stated size. You get the next problem each morning, the Saturday mock, and a tutor who answers with steps. If you want a lecture library instead, compare FE Academy vs Engineer Exam Lab. FE Academy costs $89 a month, the same monthly price as Premium and higher than Standard at $59. Its About page lists a lecture library in math, ethics, engineering economics, statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, civil engineering materials, and fluid mechanics, plus a full FE Civil practice exam, a TI-36X Pro calculator course, weekly office hours, a student community, and direct instructor support.
Which option fits your situation
Use the table for the full price grid. The notes below only keep the number that decides the choice.
If you have about a month and want the lower monthly bill, Engineer Exam Lab Standard is $59 for that month, and new members can start with the 7-day trial. PrepFE’s one-month plan is $79.99 and then stops, School of PE’s question-bank month is $139, and PPI’s Learning Hub month is $149. Those four are all “a month of prep,” but they are not the same month of content.
If you want the smallest prepaid total and a bill that ends, PrepFE’s six-month plan at $119.99, about $20.00 a month, with no auto-renewal, is the lowest lump sum among the practice products in the table. A year of Standard membership is $590, which buys a year of the daily problem, the Saturday mock, and tutor answers, not six months of a question bank.
If you need lectures, compare on-demand monthly prices first ($349 at School of PE, $395 sale price at PPI), then live entry ($1,199 for School of PE Live Online plus OnDemand, $1,295 sale or $1,795 regular at PPI). Add PPI tutoring only if you want a tutor on top of Live Online, from $1,595, and skip the live tier if you will not attend, since a class you do not open is the expensive miss in this set.
If you are preparing for the PE as well as the FE, Premium at $89 a month or $890 a year includes Standard. The PPI and School of PE prices above are FE Civil prices, not PE course quotes.
If you want a calendar and an official practice exam, note that NCEES shows its practice-exam price after you log in to MyNCEES, so leave room for that purchase on top of any third-party plan. If you need a week-by-week outline for the time you have left, use how to study for the FE exam in 60 days as a pacing suggestion, not as an NCEES rule.
Frequently asked questions
Is PrepFE enough to pass the FE?
PrepFE’s published offer is practice: interactive and timed exams, topic exams, more than 500 problems with step-by-step explanations, flash cards, a strengths and weaknesses breakdown, and iOS apps, on a term you pay once. That matches a study plan built mostly on repetition under a timer, but it is a weaker match if you still need a lecture before you can start. The pass guarantee PrepFE advertises is a free repeat subscription, not a claim that any plan produces a passing result.
Which is better, PPI or School of PE?
Neither published list makes one course better for every candidate. School of PE has the lower question-bank prices ($139 for one month, $399 for four months) and a lower on-demand month ($349, against PPI’s $395 sale price), while PPI lists a Learning Hub at $149 a month and tutoring with Live Online from $1,595, which School of PE’s list here does not mirror. Live entry is $1,199 at School of PE and $1,295 on sale at PPI ($1,795 regular). Choose the catalog whose format you will finish.
What is the cheapest way to prepare for the FE?
The lowest monthly price in this set is Engineer Exam Lab Standard at $59 a month, or $590 a year, after a 7-day free trial. The lowest prepaid practice total is PrepFE at $119.99 for six months, about $20.00 a month, with no auto-renewal, and even PrepFE’s one-month price of $79.99 is still below a School of PE question-bank month at $139 and a PPI Learning Hub month at $149. The NCEES registration fee and the MyNCEES practice exam are separate charges not listed on this page, and the practice-exam price appears only after you log in.
Are the PPI prices sale prices?
Some of them are. On the October 3, 2026 reading, OnDemand is shown at $395 a month, $995 for four months, $1,195 for six months, and $1,395 for a year as sale prices, and Live Online starts at $1,295 on sale against a regular listed price of $1,795. Learning Hub at $149 a month, $399 for three months, $649 for six months, or $849 for a year is not described as a sale price in these figures. School of PE’s prices above are the listed prices and are not labeled as a sale here.
How do you cancel Engineer Exam Lab?
Cancel any time in Skool settings. There are no refunds, and access continues until the end of the period you already paid. Standard at $59 a month or $590 a year and Premium at $89 a month or $890 a year follow that same rule, and new members also get a 7-day free trial. The first daily problem posts on October 4, 2026, so a trial that starts before that date begins as the daily posts begin.
